Since September 1, 1999 burning permits have not been issued in Howland. Township Trustees after reviewing Ohio EPA regulations determined open burning in the township is not permitted under EPA regulations. The township is classified as a Restricted Area. A Restricted Area is any area within corporation limits and a one mile zone outside any municipal corporation with a population of more than 10,000.
